We are seeking a Library Assistant to join our team at the Chicago Public Library. The ideal candidate will assist patrons with locating materials, performing clerical tasks, and supporting library programs. Strong customer service skills and a passion for assisting the community are essential.

Job Responsibilities
  • Help patrons navigate library systems and find needed information.
  • Coordinate library events and maintain records of attendees.
  • Monitors and organizes the library space for effective use.
  • Support the library staff in daily operations and initiatives.
  • Compile reports on library usage and resources.
  • Assist in training new library staff and volunteers.
  • Participate in community outreach and library advocacy efforts.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Microsoft Office Suite Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Library databases and search platforms Familiarity with library databases and search tools for retrieving information.
  • Customer Service Strong ability to assist patrons and resolve inquiries effectively.
  • Time Management Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • English (Fluent)

  • Bilingual skills: Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish (or other languages) is highly valued.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities: Demonstrated ability to think creatively to resolve patron inquiries.
