Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Speech Therapy Assistant who will support Speech Therapists in assessing and treating clients with communication difficulties. You will assist in executing therapy plans, provide therapy sessions, and monitor patient progress. This role is pivotal in helping patients regain their ability to communicate effectively, making a lasting impact on their lives and the lives of their families.

Responsibilities

• Support Speech Therapists in assessing patients' communication capabilities.
• Implement tailored therapy plans to address individual patient needs.
• Lead therapy sessions for both individuals and groups.
• Document patient progress and modify therapy approaches when required.
• Communicate effectively with families about therapy exercises and goals.
• Work alongside other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
• Keep up-to-date client files and progress reports.
• Engage in continuous professional development through workshops and training.
• Assist in the creation of therapy materials and resources.
• Foster a positive therapeutic environment that encourages patient participation.

Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Speech Therapy Assistant certification preferred

Experience

• Experience in a healthcare or therapy setting is advantageous.

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with therapy software
• Understanding of augmentative communication tools

Soft Skills

• Organizational skills
• Teamwork

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Familiarity with AAC devices: Knowledge of tools that assist communication for those with speech difficulties.
• Previous experience in a community health setting: Experience working with community agencies and understanding local resources.
