Job Description

The ASL Interpreter will be responsible for providing interpretation services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in various settings. This role demands excellent communication skills and the ability to convey spoken language into sign language and vice versa. Ideal candidates should have experience in healthcare settings and be sensitive to the needs of clients.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison for deaf individuals and service providers in diverse contexts.
  • Interpret in sensitive situations ensuring a supportive environment.
  • Adapt interpretations based on the context and audience.
  • Evaluate and adjust interpreting strategies to enhance communication.
  • Create resource materials for both clients and staff regarding deaf culture.
  • Record and track assignments to ensure coverage.
  • Participate in team meetings to share insights and improve practices.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in ASL or related field preferred
  • Completion of advanced ASL training programs
Experience
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents is a plus.
