Job Description

The Music Therapist will provide specialized music therapy services in public schools to support students' emotional, cognitive, and social development. This position involves working closely with students with diverse needs, developing personalized therapy plans, and collaborating with educational professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Design tailored music therapy sessions based on individual assessments.
  • Regularly evaluate and adjust therapy techniques to maximize student engagement.
  • Collect data on student responses to therapy and report findings.
  • Work alongside special education teams to create comprehensive support strategies.
  • Facilitate family involvement in therapeutic activities where appropriate.
  • Train staff on the benefits of music therapy and how to incorporate music into classroom activities.
  • Manage schedules and maintain therapy space for optimal function.
  • Engage in community outreach to promote the value of music therapy.
  • Conduct research on emerging music therapy techniques and methodologies.
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities.

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Music Therapist in Illinois
Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children, especially with special needs.
