Librarians and Media Collections Specialists

Job Description

As a Librarian and Media Collections Specialist, you will create and maintain accurate catalog records for all library materials while developing and implementing cataloging procedures. You will play a vital role in enhancing our library's resource accessibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide original and complex copy cataloging of assorted materials in various formats (e.g., print, electronic, multimedia).
• Create and enhance metadata for digital collections and other special projects.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of cataloging policies and procedures.
• Participate in library-wide committees and initiatives as needed.
• Assist in training library staff on cataloging practices and standards.

Requirements

Education

• MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program preferred

Experience

• Familiarity with library cataloging software and metadata standards

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of metadata standards (e.g., MARC, Dublin Core)

Soft Skills

• Analytical skills

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Proficiency in a foreign language: Ability to assist a diverse patron base by speaking multiple languages.
• Experience with community outreach programs: Experience in promoting library services to the community.
