Job Description

The Severe Mental Handicaps Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized education and support to students with severe intellectual disabilities. This role includes developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop effective teaching strategies that cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Engage in continuous assessment to track student progress and modify teaching methods as necessary.
  • Work closely with Integrated Support Teams to facilitate the best educational outcomes for students.
  • Provide guidance and training for educational assistants and support staff within the classroom.
  • Foster a supportive relationship with students to encourage growth and independence.
  • Implement behavior management techniques to assist students in achieving their goals.
  • Advocate for students' rights and needs within educational and community settings.
  • Participate in community outreach and parent engagement activities to support student learning.

Requirements

Education
  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field preferred
  • State certification in Special Education required
Experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant teaching experience
